Dusty at the Table · A public demonstration

See the Table at Work.

A question. A few cards. A different perspective.

You do not need to know Tarot to follow what happens here. I begin with the situation, use the cards to examine it, and bring the interpretation back to the real question: where the pressure sits, what may be repeating, and where there may still be room to move.

What you are seeing

A demonstration, not the whole workshop.

I am happy to show how a reading develops. I do not publish the complete working method behind it.

The examples on this page are designed to show the kind of thinking that takes place at the Table: how a question is approached, how the cards are brought into the situation, and how the reading is translated into something practical and understandable.

Some of the craft stays behind the Table.

A developed reading practice involves far more than a list of card meanings. It includes experience, judgement, pattern recognition, timing, comparison, restraint and ways of working that have been learned and refined over many years.

These public demonstrations therefore show the shape of the reading without publishing every technical step, private working convention, interpretive shortcut or piece of tradecraft used to reach it. Enough is shown for you to understand how I work. The working method itself remains mine.

Example One · Tarot de Marseille

The Job Search: When Effort Meets Resistance.

A simple two-card example showing how a small spread can open up a practical question.

The situation
“I’ve been applying for jobs but getting nowhere. Should I keep trying?”

This is a deliberately constructed example for demonstration purposes. It is not a real client consultation and the two cards have been selected to illustrate the reading method.

The cards

Two cards. Two jobs to do.

The cards are not treated as isolated dictionary entries. Each one is read in relation to the question and to the other card beside it.

Card One

Five of Batons

The Pressure

Here I would be looking at effort meeting resistance: energy being spent, competing demands, and the possibility that a great deal is being done without producing the wanted result. The card raises the question of pressure. It does not tell us, by itself, exactly why applications have failed.

Card Two

Le Chariot

The Move

Le Chariot brings movement, direction and control into the reading. I would not automatically turn that into “success is coming”. The more useful question is whether the person needs to regain control of the search, sharpen the target, or change how their effort is being directed.

Reading the cards together

The issue may not be effort. It may be direction.

Taken together, the cards suggest a useful line of enquiry: plenty of energy may already be going into the search, but that energy may not be organised in the most effective way. More applications are not necessarily the same thing as a better strategy.

That does not establish why any particular employer said no. The cards do not give us access to an employer’s private reasoning. What they can do is turn our attention back to the part of the situation the applicant can examine and influence.

The friction

Effort may be colliding with a narrow target, repeated presentation, an overcrowded part of the market, or a strategy that has stopped producing useful information.

The move

The reading points towards regaining direction rather than simply increasing volume. The useful move may be to refine, reposition, gather better information, or deliberately change the route being taken.

Questions worth taking away

  • Am I targeting the right kind of roles, or repeating the same narrow search?
  • Is my CV and application presenting the value I actually bring?
  • Would fewer, better-matched applications tell me more than simply sending more?
  • Is there useful training, information, networking or repositioning that could change the quality of the search?

The practical perspective

A reading should leave you with something to examine.

The point of this two-card reading is not to promise a job. It is to change the quality of the question. Instead of asking only “Will I succeed?”, the reading gives us a more useful problem to investigate: “Where is my effort meeting resistance, and what would more purposeful movement look like?”

That is the kind of shift I am looking for at the Table. The cards may describe pressure, pattern, momentum or possibility. The reading then has to earn its value by bringing those observations back to the real situation in front of us.

What the reading can and cannot do

Interpretation is not the same as proof.

The Table can offer another angle on a situation. It does not turn uncertainty into certainty simply because cards are present.

It can help us explore

Patterns, pressures, choices, possible consequences, blind spots, momentum and questions that may deserve more attention.

It cannot establish as fact

Why a particular employer rejected an application, what another person secretly thinks, or a guaranteed future outcome.

Behind the Table

There is more happening than appears on the page.

A public example has to be readable. A real reading is more responsive than a web page. The question, the person, the order of information, the visual relationships on the table and the way the reading develops all affect what receives attention.

I have spent many years learning, practising, comparing and refining how I read. Some of that knowledge was taught directly; some of it was built through experience. I do not publish the complete mechanics of that work as a tutorial or formula. The purpose of this page is to let you see the character of the reading, not to turn a developed practice into a set of instructions for copying it.

The short version

You see the question, the cards, the pressure, the movement and the practical conclusion. The deeper working process stays behind the Table.

Bring your own crossroads

Your situation will not look exactly like this one.

That is the point. The reading follows the matter rather than forcing every question through the same script.
